Weight Loss Tips for Children

It has been observed that obesity or being overweight is one of the growing problems among children these days. It leads to serious health hazards and other diseases.
Everyone knows very well what one has to do to lose weight like eat less and exercise more. The problem is to stay motivated to do these things. You cannot expect to lose your weight overnight, for this you need to follow a strict regime. When this is difficult for adults then it is even harder for kids. Kids do not necessary understand the negative ill effects of being overweight.
How to encourage your child to lose weight?
You can help your child to lose weight by sticking to the basics. You do not have to worry about counting calories, carbohydrates and fat grams. Instead provide healthy meals and snacks so that your child has a balanced weight. Try to encourage regular physical activity in your child.
Next thing is to be your child’s role model; you should start this early when your kids are young. This will help your whole family to be healthy.
If your child is overweight, you need to make some changes in his diet. This is not that difficult as you think it to be. You do not count every calorie that he eats and drinks which can be especially hard when your kids are eating at school.
Instead, keep in mind that a pound is equal to 3500 calories. So if your child is gaining an extra pound a week he needs to cut on his diet by 3500 calories or 500 calories a day so that he does not gain any more weight.
Fortunately most of the kids do not have to make drastic change in their diets. An overweight teen is likely to gain an extra weight of 100 to 150 calories a day which is equal to a can of non diet soda.
The most important goal for overweight kids is to simply stop gaining weight. You need to figure out that how much weight your child has gained in the past year. Then you need to adjust his diet to compensate for those extra calories. The change might be simple like changing non-fat milk, diet soda or to something more healthy and tasty.
